IT WAS THE 4TH OF JULY
And what a memorable one it was, although it didn't start out that way.Plans to BBQ were ditched because of the rain, then resurrected when the skies cleared. We did the traditional hot dogs and I bought some cross cut ribs and a nice cucumber salad. And beer and wine and vodka and gin in mass quantities (but not consumed by the same person). We ended up on the roof of our house...initially to view the fireworks (which we could not see...)but ended up hanging out because the birds eye view of neighborhood goings on...(illegal)fireworks!Police!were just to much fun.
I have always liked this X song, and while I've never made any connection to it and the spirit of American Independence,I think it's maudlin tone is a perfect (yet totally out of context) metaphor for this year's fourth.
Maybe next year it'll be more upbeat.
