Yea!
I had a job interview today. I interviewed with three people at the company and it went very well. I don't know if it went well enough for me to get the job, but I was pleased with my interviews. I would very much like to work for this company and I hope they would like me to work for them. I'll just have to wait and see... I should know something no later than the end of next week...

Whack a Weed
Our lawn guy has pulled another disappearing act. That's something he can get away with in the middle of summer, but at this time of year the weeds actually grow like weeds. Several of them are almost as tall as I am. We have no lawn mower because they keep getting stolen and it's been cheaper to pay someone else to do the lawn than to keep buying another mower every time one disappears. Oddly enough, nothing else ever seems to disappear out of our carport, back yard or front porch (we've stored the lawn mowers in all three places.) In fact, there is a DVD player on the front porch that has been there for months and it's a lot easier to cart off than a lawn mower, yet it remains undisturbed.

Anyway, since we have no lawn mower and our lawn guy is in absentia, I have decided that today I will attack the front yard with the weed eater. I once had a neighbor that mowed his entire front lawn ever week with a weed eater so I know it can be done. I'm sure I will not be able to do it with the skill of said neighbor who was somehow able to achieve a perfectly cut St. Augustine lawn. Now I've only used a weed eater a couple of times in my life so I have no idea how he was able to cut every blade at an equal and precise height, but with our lawn o' weeds, precision doesn't matter. Even if I cut large areas down to the dirt, which I am likely to do because I am extremely unskilled with a weed eater, then the weeds will just fill back in, probably overnight. If I manage to pull this off today then I will have Rob take pictures of the aftermath when he gets home tonight and we can all have a good laugh.

Update: I only got half done this morning before it got too hot and steamy. I was going to do the other half tonight, but I have a job interview and assessment test to take - woohoo!

A tip of my hat to Cobblestone Mills and Flowers Bakeries
Good customer service seems to be a rare thing these days so I'm pleased to share this example of it. I posted the other day that I found a loaf of Rye bread inside a package labeled Sourdough. I didn't mention the brand name in my post, but I did email the company and let them know what happened. It's a pretty big operation, with distribution in 29 states, and while I was hoping for a response, I didn't really expect anything other than a form letter. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to get an actual phone call. That's right, a real live person called me from the local area bakery to offer an apology and they also spent a good 15 minutes on the phone with me to make sure I remained a happy and satisfied customer. Yes, they are sending me coupons, but the personal touch of that phone call is what made the difference between my possibly never buying that brand again and being a regular customer. Good job!

An unexpected sandwich
I bought a loaf of Sourdough bread yesterday and set out to make myself a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch. Except when I opened the package I found a loaf of Jewish Rye inside instead of the Sourdough I was craving. I generally don't like Rye bread, but I was hungry and didn't want to go back to the grocery store so I grilled my sandwich on Rye instead. It actually wasn't too bad; either I've never had "Jewish" Rye bread before or my tastes have changed as I've grown older. I wonder if anyone else got a surprise in their bread package or if this was just some odd way of circumstances conspiring to get me to try something new? Or perhaps it was a reminder of Warren Zevon's advice to "Enjoy every sandwich."

Decisions, decisions
I'm currently faced wtih a variety of major life changing decisions, none of which I'm comfortable blogging about at the moment so instead I offer this less monumental one - should I pay $30 for a pair of 34 inch waist jeans that fits or just keep sinching the belt on the 36 inch pair that I have until I get down to a 32?

Stuck at 180 with a smaller rack
Back in November, I posted that my weight was down to 175 pounds. I didn't realize our old scale was off by 5 pounds so I was actually at 180 pounds at that time. Today finds me still at 180 pounds, but I have been losing inches during this time. Lots of them. It's a mystery how I can lose so many inches and still be the same weight. I know people will say, "Muscle weighs more than fat," but I haven't gained any muscle that I can see. Instead, I've lost 4 bra sizes, 2 pants sizes and 1 shirt size. And why is it the weight always comes off the boobs first?
